Club Car enables Taunton & Pickeridge Golf Club to maximise customer experience

Taunton & Pickeridge Golf Club has underlined its commitment to enhancing the experience of its members and visiting golfers by investing in a fleet of fully-connected golf cars from Club Car.

Taunton & Pickeridge Golf Club has invested in a fleet of fully-connected Club Car vehiclesThe venue, which was founded in 1892 and is built on land previously used to mine limestone, has purchased a fleet of Precedent i2 golf cars, all fitted with the ground-breaking interactive touch screen ‘connected’ technology, Visage, from official Club Car distributor, Hopkins Machinery.

In addition to providing golfers with hole-by-hole flyovers and accurate yardage information, the Visage system is also designed to provide the golf club’s operations team with an effective fleet monitoring tool.

Simon Stevenson, Director of Golf at Taunton & Pickeridge Golf Club, said: “The course sits on top of Pickeridge Hill and features a number of hollows, humps and deep pits with severe drop-offs caused by the open cast mining. The challenging terrain therefore meant that we needed to invest in vehicles that would ensure the safety of our guests and members, as well as enhance their enjoyment of the course.

“From an operator’s perspective, Club Car and its Visage technology was an obvious choice. We can now not only control the speed at which the cars are being driven on the steep slopes, but also the exact areas where they can go, ensuring the safety of all of our customers.

“The system also allows us to better communicate with our golfers, sending them messages via the onboard computer to notify them of specific no-go zones and dangerous areas, let them know if they need to pick up their pace of play and even pass on messages from the clubhouse.”

In addition to providing a number of safety benefits, the fleet of vehicles from the Official Supplier of the European Tour has also helped the club retain existing members.

“The golf club has a thriving seniors section but due to injuries and age, a number of members were having to consider leaving as they were unable to regularly walk the course,” continued Simon.

“However, to arrest this decline we created a ‘buggy club’, which allows members to pay an additional £100 a year and they can then hire a golf car for only £5 a round – the usual cost of golf car hire is £25. This has been hugely successful for us and we have found it has not only increased member retention, but with the vehicles out on the course every day, it has had a positive impact on the club’s overall revenue stream as well.

“Our decision to invest in a Club Car fleet has definitely been vindicated and the high standards of customer service we receive from the team at Hopkins Machinery ensures that we will be able to continue servicing the needs of our customers for many years to come.”
